Frank B. Butler Celebration August 15th 2026!
SJCDBC Gave Out Free Cultural and Banned Books, Plus Did Voter Education at the Frank Butler Celebration!
Hosted by Lincolnville Historical Preservation and Restoration Society (LPHRS), this was a fun event for all who attended.
Everyone enjoyed the music, great food and the beach vibes and breeze! SJCDBC gave out free books and also talked to visitors at the event and even on the beach about the upcoming primary on August 18th. John Lewis Good Trouble Lives On! "Teach, Reach, and Preach!" July 17th 2026!
In honor of the late U.S. Congressman, John Lewis, SJCDBC partnered with our local Indivisible and the SJC Democratic Party, to celebrate his life and legacy. Mr. Lewis championed the Voting Rights Act and education through reading. Both are under assault here in Florida and at the National Level. We must carry on his work!
We had Great Speakers at this Event!
Reverend Marsh spoke on the message of John 14:2. She asked us, as a community, what kind of place are we preparing for the homeless, the refugee, the sick. She charged us to be more humane and welcoming to the least among us.
Jimmie Jackson: spoke about participating in ‘sit-ins’ during the summer of 1963 by taking ‘whites only seats at lunch counters. Mr. Jackson was kidnapped by the KKK along with Mr Hayling and two other Black activists. “We were brutally beaten. We were nearly lynched,” he recounted. They just narrowly escaped with their lives after being rescued by local police.
Gayle Phillips discussed the importance of voting and the Voting Rights Act especially in this environment.
David Nolan spoke about having John Lewis speak in St. Augustine and the slew of diplomatic steps that were taken to get the Voting Rights Act passed.
Sea Community Help Resource Center G.O and BTS Bash! July 24th 2026!
SJCDBC Supported their Back To School Bash at the Grand Opening of the Seacoast Community Center!
SJCDBC gave out almost 40 books to children and their parents. Our organization also donated 26 books to the Sea Community Help Center to start their library! Thanks to everyone who has supported this endeavor!
The SEA partners with their local community as they serve the residents of Spuds, Elkton, and Armstrong.
They host weekly Friday food giveaways, Thanksgiving Dinner, and Christmas food bags and Children’s gifts to help with the holidays.
They also host the annual Gullah Geechee Festival in December.

Boys To Men in Hastings July 25th 2026
SJCDBC Supported Boys to Men hosted by the Quarterback Club in Hastings
Boys To Men’s Goal is: Empowering Communities to save our Young Men to be more successful individuals, build stronger families, and engage in civic leadership.
SJCDBC supported the Quarterback Club at their events in Hastings on June 27th, and July 25th 2026. Our volunteers gave out books and gave out information on the importance of voting and the resources we had for candidate information.
We also had volunteers for Voter Registration. We plan to be there for future events as well!

We do this at all our events! We need every citizen to exercise their right to vote. We have a lot of great information on our website to help everyone make informed decisions
SJCDC Free Books For Kids!
Our children need to learn about their heritage, which is why we are giving away
free books at these events. Some of these books have been banned by the current Florida administration;
some have not. The overall focus is to broaden our children’s understanding and appreciation of our culture
and history..

We marched to the Plaza de La
Constitucion, then listened to several wonderful speakers focused on the local theme: “Whatever affects one
directly, affects all indirectly”.
