There are so many ways to get involved with St Johns County Democratic Black Caucus! We truly believe we are stronger when we work together on issues that we care about! 2026 is a pivotal political year for this country. There is so much at stake. We all know it can seem overwhelming when we sit back and listen to everything that is going on.

We believe that taking action is great for two reasons:

Connecting with others lifts our morale! We get new ideas as well, and find ways to express joy, even through these tough times.

Taking Action does make a difference. Sometimes in ways you don’t expect; but educating ourselves, collaborating on political and community outreach, it affects our lives as well as the lives of others.

This election year our right to vote is under assault.

This election year, our right to vote is under assault. This is a right our ancestors fought hard for—including the right for Black Americans and women to vote. Our vote is our voice.

Current Threats to Our Vote

  • Gerrymandered Maps: Following the Supreme Court’s April 2026 ruling against the Voting Rights Act of 1965, Governor DeSantis immediately published new voting maps that actively reduce Black representation. Learn more on our [Racial Targeting page].

  • The Florida Voter ID Act: This new legislation makes it harder for everyday people to vote. Fortunately, it does not go into effect until January 1, 2027, meaning the November 2026 midterms are safe from these restrictions. Learn more on our [Key Legislation page].

Elections Matter

The rollback of reproductive healthcare, rollbacks of the EPA, climate change inaction, funding cuts to education, reductions in health insurance and SNAP benefits, and rising costs—all of this is a direct result of who we elect. We need informed, engaged voters in Florida. We need change now.
